Police are investigating a report alleging that a woman delivered a baby, hid the infant in a bucket used to feed pigs, and later buried the body on Qamea Island in the Northern Division without informing authorities.

The matter came to light after the woman reportedly developed an infection and sought medical treatment.

She is currently admitted in Hospital.

It is alleged that after hearing about the incident, a village nurse instructed the woman and her grandfather to exhume the infant’s body and bring it for examination.

However, when the grave was opened by the grandfather, it was discovered that the infant’s head was missing.

The body was then reburied.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident and said investigations were continuing.
