People can expect to be stopped and questioned at checkpoints now erected throughout the country as we will be limiting unnecessary movement of people over the next 48hour period.

People are still moving around with the sole intention of breaching the COVID-19 restrictions which is evident with the ninety nine (99) arrests made for social gathering breaches.

Forty-eight (48) arrests for social gathering breaches were made in the Western Division, thirty five (35) in the South, thirteen (13) in the Central and three (3) in the East.

The other arrests made include forty nine (49) curfew breaches and two (2) arrests made were for malicious comments posted on social media bringing the total arrests made to one hundred and fifty (150) arrests.

The Eastern Division recorded the highest number of curfew breaches with twenty one (21) arrests, seventeen (17) in the South and eleven (11) arrears in the West.

People need to understand that they MUST treat everyone as a COVID-19 carrier.

The latest confirmed case as highlighted by the Hon. Prime Minister did not show any symptoms but because she had a high risk of being infected was high given her close contact with her grandfather she was tested and confirmed positive.

Therefore the increased number of roadblocks will closely monitor movement and those who are found to be moving around with out any valid reason will be sent back to their homes.

This applies to those who are driving around without any purpose such as getting to a supermarket or market to get supplies or to get to work.

Those driving around for no reason but for a joy ride and sightseeing will be sent back, and failure to adhere will result in their arrest.

Those found loitering will be arrested.

If you don't have any reason to be out of your house then stay home or face arrest.

Our strict measures are not to be confused for a 24hour curfew, but we are limiting unnecessary movement of those who still cannot fully comprehend the seriousness of the situation we are in.
