Asian women believed to be working as sex workers in the country cannot be arrested by Police unless an official complaint is lodged against them.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday in response to queries from the Fiji Sun on the issue of prostitution.

Ms Naisoro said there had to be an official report lodged for Police to take action.

“We can only take action on official reports. We don’t have the legal authority to just arrest them like that,” she said.

It has come to the knowledge of this newspaper that apart from a massage, some Asian women are also offering sexual services in Suva City.

They are said to hang around outside a nightclub and restaurants on Victoria Parade at night, waiting for clients.

Yesterday, this newspaper reported in its BTL column about how an Asian woman approached a friend who was having dinner in a restaurant early this week.

The woman offered to give the friend of BTL a massage and sexual services at a cost of $100 an hour or $200 for the whole night at a flat she claims to rent in a posh residential area in Suva.

She said she had left her job as an engineer in her country of birth and came to Fiji on her own because of the number of tourists coming to Fiji.

She claimed to be a divorcee and that she had a four months visa to stay in Fiji.

The woman said she had provided sexual services to tourists and locals in exchange for money in the one month she has been in the country.
