A police officer based at the Prosecution Unit in the Eastern Division became a lawyer on Tuesday after years of sacrifice and hard work.

Constable Kushboo Saheeba Nisha Ali, 25, was admitted to the Bar of the High Court of Fiji at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva in front of her mother and brother.

She has come a long way, completed her law degree and Professional Diploma in Legal Practice (PDLP) from the University of the South Pacific within seven years.

Over the past three years, Constable Ali worked at the Fiji Police Force. She said it was difficult balancing her job with university classes.

“It was not an easy journey for me because I was studying and working fulltime. It was hard to maintain a high academic standard because there were a lot of assignments, tutorials and challenges with my work.”

Constable Ali said despite the hurdles, the support from her single mother and family members in Fiji and abroad helped her accomplish her goal to be a legal practitioner admitted to the Bar.

She looks forward to building a successful career at the Fiji Police Force.

“I believe this is just the start of my journey. I want to study more and hopefully go overseas.”
