Police officer fronts court for giving false information

A police officer and his relative, charged with giving false information to a public servant, appeared at the Labasa Magistrate Court yesterday: Kaushik Singh and Sheik Mohammed Ali are charged with providing false information to a police officer last Saturday in Labasa.
They appeared before Magistrate Safaira Ratu and represented by lawyer John Prasad.
Police prosecutor Constable Shailendra Mani did not object to Singh being released on bail but noted that Ali had pending cases before the court.

Mr Prasad said that both accused were willing to provide cash bail and sureties.
Magistrate Ratu agreed after Singh's father and Ali's brother-in-law appeared as sureties.
The magistrate then released the two on cash bail of $400 each and advised them not to reoffend or interfere with State witnesses.
The case has been adjourned for mention to August 27.
