Police probe discovery of officer in Lami Bay

The area was cordoned off at about 7.10am as investigations began.

An investigation is underway following the discovery of the body of a 24-year-old police officer in Lami this morning.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu confirmed the officer had been on duty at the Lami Police Station last night.

Commissioner Tudravu said the circumstances surrounding the young officer’s death are under investigation and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

He has conveyed the organisation’s condolences to the officer’s family.

Earlier, Police were investigating the discovery of a body found floating near the seaside along Marine Drive in Lami.

The Fiji Sun established the body was spotted around 6.30am near the beach behind the Lami Oceania Wesley Church.

Witnesses said officers were alerted and arrived at the scene at about 7.02am, confirming the discovery.
