Police recorded 635 theft cases last month

Police revealed that the amount of the stolen item was approximately more than half a million dollars, and involved six employees of the three outlets.

The Fiji Police Force has recorded 635 theft cases for July.

Three of the cases allegedly accumulated more than half a million dollars.

The three cases recorded multiple counts of thefts from a restaurant, supermarket and a foreign exchange outlet.

Police revealed that the amount of the stolen item was approximately more than half a million dollars, and involved six employees of the three outlets.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew said the overall crime rate for July increased by 52 per cent compared to the same period in 2023, and 17 per cent when compared to June. The increase was related to cases of theft, assault and burglary. Theft cases for July were 635 cases.

Assault

Mr Chew said assault cases recorded an increase of 96 cases, with 347 cases recorded in July 2024 compared to 251 for the same period last year.

Drugs 

The amount of illegal narcotics rose by 42 per cent, with 188 drug instances reported over the same time last year as opposed to 132 the previous year.
