Police Rescue Family in Labasa Flood
“My husband moved out of the village to work in Labasa two years ago as a driver to save money for our children education.”

A man’s assurance to his wife that Police would come to their rescue eventually occurred as flood waters began to rise in their area in Labasa on Monday morning.
Laisa Tuiwainunu began to panic at her home in Naodamu, Labasa.
Floodwaters were rising rapidly as she prepared her family to vacate their home.

But her husband told her to remain calm adding that if they were in danger, surely the Police would be there to help them out.
And the Police did.
Five Police officers assisted the family while one of them, Police Constable Sevanaia Nadoki, carried the couple’s one-year-and-11-month old child, Lavenia Grace Tuiwainunu. That picture of the officers and the child went viral on social media.

She said it was raining heavily between 11pm on Sunday and 4am the next day. Her compound was inundated with water.
“I couldn’t sleep and while packing around 4am I saw water level rising and about to enter the house,” she said.
“We prayed and my husband told me not to worry because if their lives were at risk, the Police officers would surely guide them out.”
At around 5am, when she saw the police officers, she felt relieved.
“I thank God for answering our prayers by sending Good Samaritans to our rescue,” she said.
