Members of the greater Suva community were all smiles yesterday as the Fiji Police Force Band continued to spread the New Year’s cheer through entertainment and community visitations.
The band visited the St Giles Psychiatric Hospital, the Suva Corrections Remand Centre, the Suva Municipal Market and toured the Toorak area.
The visit was the initiative of the Central Division Community Policing Team to acknowledge members of the communities for their assistance in the past.

Through this initiative, the Central Community Policing Team also pleaded with the communities to continue their working relationship between the Police and stakeholders this new year.
The goal, according to the police, is to make Suva City safe for everyone.
Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua said the focus of Police this year was on creating a secure and peaceful environment that fosters economic growth, cultural exchange, and social harmony.
Mr Tikoduadua said Government recognised the safety and well-being of its citizens, who were the bedrock upon which the nation’s prosperity was built.
“In our quest for enhanced security, we are committed to strengthening our community policing efforts. Community policing is not only a strategy; it’s a philosophy that involves building strong, trust-based relationships between our Police Force and the communities they serve,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“By enhancing communication and cooperation with local communities, we aim to not only prevent crime but also address the root causes of social issues, fostering a safer, more cohesive society.
“At the heart of this Restore Blue is the concept of community-centered policing. This approach focuses on building strong, collaborative relationships between our police officers and the communities they serve.”
He said it was about understanding the unique needs and concerns of each community and working together to address them.
“By fostering trust and open communication, we aim to create a more responsive, empathetic, and effective Police Force.”
