The Fiji Police Force will submit its investigation file on Richard Mock’s death to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) today for review and possible sanctioning of charges.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said investigators have been working on transcribing video interviews of 13 officers allegedly linked to the case.

The process has been time-consuming but essential to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, he said.

Mr Tudravu said the delay in submission was not because of any attempt to protect the officers involved but was necessary to compile all statements and forensic evidence accurately.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) found that police were the last to see Mock, 35, before his body was found in a vacant lot in Nasau, Nadi, in January. This has raised serious concerns about how he died.

In response to public outcry and calls for accountability, the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission urged for an immediate and independent inquest into the matter.

Commission chairperson Parvesh Sharma highlighted the necessity of a formal inquiry to uphold public trust in law enforcement and ensure justice for Mr Mock and his family.

Mr Tudravu had reassured the public and Mr Mock’s family that the investigation would be conducted transparently, with all due processes followed.

He reiterated that any officers found to be implicated will face appropriate legal consequences.

The investigation file, once submitted to the ODPP, will undergo an independent review to determine whether charges should be laid.
