Police to Question A-G Siromi Turaga

The Fiji Police Force will begin investigations into a report against Attorney- General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga.
The inquiry to be conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department follows a complaint lodged by retired soldier Mikaele Lewaicei last Wednesday:
Assistant Police Commissioner of Police-Crime Mesake Waqa confirmed that a report has been filed.

Mr Lewaicei said he had lodged a report against Mr Turaga for allegedly obtaining financial benefit through deception, fraud, and uttering a false document while he practised as a solicitor and barrister.
This happened prior to the December 2022 elections where Mr Turaga represented Mr Lewaicei's wife in a divorce application. She is his cousin.
Mr Lewaicei claimed that on July 27, 2022, Mr Turaga told him that he was representing his cousin for the divorce application.
He added that the application was lodged and that they wanted to serve him with the particulars of the case.
However, Mr Lewaicei claimed that he did not receive any legal document from Mr Turaga.

Mr Lewaicei had checked at theNasinu Registry to obtain his divorce decree and was told that no divorce application had been lodged by Mr Turaga or divorce decree issued.
"On February 26, 2024, I visited the Suva Registry and requested a nationwide search of my divorce application filed by Mr Turaga and the divorce decree, but the result was the same," he said.
Mr Lewaicei claimed that his wife had paid Mr Turaga $2000 to represent her in the divorce proceedings.
Numerous calls, Viber messages and questions on email to Mr Turaga remained unanswered at the time this edition went to press.
