Police treat death of Crowne Plaza acting manager as case of interest

Police are treating the death of a 41-year-old acting manager at Crowne Plaza in Wailoaloa, Nadi, as a case of interest.

The deceased has been identified as Jason Rigby, originally from the Gold Coast, Australia.

According to Police spokesperson Sergeant Wame Bautolu, Rigby’s body was discovered in a bathroom at the hotel on Saturday at around 8am.

“The body was found motionless, and it is currently at the Nadi Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem,” Sergeant Bautolu stated.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay’s General Manager, Shaun Parsons, expressed the hotel’s sorrow in a statement on December 14, 2024.

“The hotel team is deeply saddened to confirm the loss of one of our team members,” he said.

Parsons further clarified that local police had confirmed there was no criminal investigation into the incident.

“We remain in close contact with the family and are providing them with support during this difficult time. The thoughts of everyone here at Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay are with them, and we respectfully ask for privacy for the family,” he added.

The investigation into Rigby’s death is ongoing.
