A police officer of Vunika, Labasa was caught on Closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera is currently under investigation for allegedly buying drugs in Labasa Market.

The alleged incident happened last week Thursday.

An ex-police officer saw the policeman in uniform allegedly walking away with drugs from the market.

Council confirms

Labasa Town Council special administrator chair Paul Jaduram confirmed that the market master after receiving the complaint immediately viewed the CCTV camera.

Mr Jaduram said the market master then reported the matter to the Labasa Police Station since the officer was in police uniform.

“Members of the public have knowledge of some police officers involved in drug dealings; they are able to share information to the person they trust,” Mr Jaduram said.

“People do come and tell us when they see drug peddlers in the market and we try to relay the information with the Police to take action.”

Mr Jaduram is requesting parents to be vigilant as they have knowledge of some children involved in buying and selling drugs.

“The municipal market is the busiest place in town and there is always lot of movement since it’s close to the bus stand, taxi stand and other shops,” he said.

“We all need to work together to put an end to this drug war.”

When contacted yesterday, Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kemueli Baledrokadroka confirmed that investigation was ongoing.
