The Ministry of Education will consider terminating teachers alleged to be politically-involved or making political commentaries on social media.

Responding to a question in Parliament on teachers’ recruitment, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro said the ministry was reviewing the Open Merit Recruitment Selection system with the Public Service Commission.

“Maybe, he has been given information from some of his friends within the ministry, some of whom used to campaign for him and the former Minister for Education in the recent General Election,” Mr Radrodro said while responding to Opposition Member of Parliament Hem Chand.

“But not to worry, we are almost finishing the investigation and we will be forced to consider taking actions as that taken by both the former minister and that of the former head of HR during their time ... when they were terminating teachers who were alleged to be politically-involved. Or making political commentaries on social media,” he said.
