Nine families of Valoca Settlement in Dreketi have a bright future ahead of them. This is all thanks to the commissioning of a rural electrification project by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, who is currently touring the Northern Division.
While commissioning the grid extension electrification and house wiring project yesterday, Mr Bainimarama described it as an important win for the community of 61 residents.
Valoca Settlement, which is the traditional name for Nawasa Settlement, is one of the three settlements under the Batiri Village leadership.

“With this project, your communities are safer, children’s future brighter and unlocks people’s true potential,” the PM said.
“Children can complete their homework into the evening, reliable heated or warm water for bath-sand drinking purposes.”
Batiri Village headman Viliame Bulilevu, 69, said the project was a new source of encouragement for the 61 residents.
The residents, he said, had with stood the challenges, but under the leadership of the FirstFirst Government, the community never lost hope.

The Prime Minister also spoke highly of the Duavata Secondary School students who recently won a place in the National Constitution Day video challenge.
The PM encouraged the Valoca community of its equal status to turn the settlement into a knowledge-based society.
“My commitment remains to extend the electricity access to every home in Fiji by 2026.”
Mr Bainimarama began his north tour yesterday. His final visit is scheduled for Nabouwalu on Thursday.
