The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) must give a detailed report today on the electricity tariff review to the Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development Esrom Immanuel.
He has asked the FCCC to do more public meetings and explain the power rate increase to Fijians before it starts this Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The commission, which controls prices in Fiji, announced last week that electricity bills would go up by 24.2 percent for people who use more than 100 units each month.

Many Fijians were confused and upset because they did not know about the increase until it was announced.
Mr Immanuel said the commission must now report back today (Monday, December 29) on what they would do next.
"Any tariff review must carefully balance three critical dimensions - the role of the regulator, the discipline and transparency of the regulatory process, and the lived experience of consumers," Mr Immanuel said.
This means Government wants to make sure the commission follows proper rules, is open and honest, and thinks about how the increase affects ordinary families.
