“My father’s leg got amputated so most of the work was done by my mother and older brother who also supports the family,” Ms Lata said.
She hoped to one day repay her mother’s sacrifices by supporting and managing their family’s finances.
Ranjeeta, who is a pure science student at the College, made an improvement of 17 marks from her annual exam aggregate score of 359/400, which meant she improved in subjects like Maths, Chemistry and Biology.
She said her career goal had been secured because her marks were good enough to enrol her in the Bachelor of Medical Imaging Science programme at the Fiji National University.
“I will pursue a career of becoming a radiologist, but the intended aim was to do MBBS from the start, however, this would not be possible with scholarships no longer available in MBBS,” she said.
Ranjeeta said tertiary life would definitely be a challenge in adjusting herself to the new learning environment, nonetheless, she is confident of overcoming these obstacles.
“It always seems impossible until it is done – was a major encouraging quote which always made her study and perform a step further and tertiary life would be no different,” she said.
Ranjeeta also thanked her teachers and mentors for always assisting her.
“Teachers are role models for their students and for me they provided more than just being a role model because they helped in purchasing my stationeries, books and other learning resources,” she added.
