Preparations underway for celebration

Villagers of Tubou in Lau in Lakeba are buzzing with anticipation as they prepare for this week's vakasenuqanuqa to celebrate the installation of the Tui Nayau, Tui Lau, Sau ni Vanua Ratu Tevita Uuilakeba Mara earlier this year.

Vakasenuqanuqa refers to a traditional ceremony of wel­come and honour held for indi­viduals or a delegation return­ing home "victorious" after completing an important and arduous mission or achieving a significant milestone.

Village headman Terna Waqavonono said that everyone has tasks to perform.

"Some of the village men have started cutting the grass around the village compound while the women are gathering traditional gifts and items for the celebrations," Mr Waqavonono said.

"Today, we will start putting up the sheds for the celebra­tions which will take place on Friday."

Mr Waqavonono said there were also representatives from Government agencies such as

"We have begun preparations already, starting with the vil­lage clean- up which took place yesterday.

The Ministry of iTaukei Land and Fiji Police Force that ar­rived in Tubou Village to be part of the celebrations this week.
