President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu is reportedly considering paying three months’ remuneration to Lavinia Rokoika before removing her as Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), a high-level source told this masthead.
The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) recommended her removal last week, following Justice Dane Tuiqereqere’s February 2 ruling that her appointment was illegal.
The source confirmed the President has received the recommendation but has not acted on it.

“JSC can’t recommend that because they did not appoint Lavi under the 2013 Constitution,” the source said.
Recent reports indicate the President is awaiting a response from the JSC. However, sources say he has already sought legal advice from the Solicitor-General’s Office.
That advice aligns with the JSC’s recommendation to revoke Ms Rokoika’s appointment immediately.
The JSC, which consulted the Attorney-General, has confirmed the recommendation was properly endorsed.
It has been reported that the President’s delay and conditions exceed his constitutional powers.
Although there is no set timeframe to resolve the issue, sources say the matter has dragged on for too long.
“Hopefully, before Thursday, the President will act on the JSC recommendation,” the source added.
The JSC is scheduled to meet tomorrow to deliberate further.
