President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has reminded Fijians living abroad that no matter where they are in the world, Fiji remains their home.

Speaking to members of the Fijian diaspora in Dublin, Ireland last Saturday, Ratu Naiqama urged them to be good citizens while living overseas.

“Wherever you are in the world, Fiji will always be home. While you are here, be good citizens, follow the law and take up the opportunities afforded to you here,” he said.

The President met with Fijians residing in Dublin and Northern Ireland at the Clayton Hotel, accompanied by First Lady Madam Emily Lalabalavu.

He acknowledged the significant contributions Fijians abroad make to Fiji’s development through their expertise, remittances, and global networks that benefit their families and communities back home.

Ratu Naiqama also praised the diaspora for maintaining Fijian culture and traditions abroad, particularly after receiving a traditional welcome ceremony.

“It is heartwarming for me and my delegation to receive this traditional welcome and I congratulate and encourage you to continue to maintain our culture of respect and reciprocity in teaching your children our language, culture, and the values that define us as Fijians,” he said.

Ratu Naiqama encouraged diaspora members to continue supporting one another and to visit home whenever possible, stressing their vital role in strengthening Fiji’s global family.
