The pretrial checklist hearing for the case of a former Police officer facing a rape charge will now be called in June at the High Court in Lautoka.

This was decided by Justice Sunil Sharma who presided over the matter yesterday.

It is alleged that the accused, Brian Ravatudei, barged into a female Police officer’s room on September 2021 while intoxicated and committed the offence.

The court heard the matter was initially to check on the pretrial checklist and that the defence had already filed its response to the draft pretrial checklist.

Mr Nasa told the court that the state would be requesting another pretrial checklist hearing date. Justice Sharma said he would give a date in June as Ravatudei was unemployed and residing in Suva and there was no need to bring him unnecessarily to attend the court sittings.

The matter has been adjourned to June 2 for the pretrial checklist hearing.
