Four primary school students allegedly caught smoking marijuana at a recent athletics meet have been counselled.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu confirmed this yesterday.
ACP Driu is once again calling on parents and guardians to continuously discuss the devastating consequences of illicit drugs with their children.

He said the four students were referred to the police during the athletics meet.
The four were found with smoking apparatuses inside a washroom, and were referred to the security officials at the venue, before Police were called.
“The parents of the students were informed, and the students have been counselled for the consequences of their actions,” ACP Driu said.
“The Fiji Police Force is pleading with parents and guardians to continuously counsel their children, as they are in the experimental stages of their lives,” he said.
“Without constant guidance, children will ask for advice from sources that do not have their best interests and well-being at heart, possibly leading them on the wrong path in life.”
Meanwhile, Fiji Teachers Union general secretary Muniappa Goundar is calling for more counsellors following the incident.
“This is very concerning,” Mr Gounder said.
“Counsellors play a crucial role track not only with learning but with behaviour and child development and choices.
“I believe counselling is very important,” he said.
“Counsellors need to be in all schools, there is only one counsellor in one division. We have so many schools and to have only one counsellor in a division that’s too much work for one,” he said.
“There is a need to understand drugs and their harmful impacts on life. This should be addressed from a broader perspective and included as part of the school curriculum.”
