Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama thanked a group of Fijians in Victoria, Australia for their generosity and compassion.

He made the remarks when he received a container-load of hospital linen and beds, plus sports equipment from rural areas in Melbourne.

The Fijians are members of the Victorian Multicultural Sports Association.

Mr Bainimarama was chief guest at the launch of their charity projects for 2019 in Melbourne.

Vishwa Kumar, the association president, said from Melbourne that they were honoured to have the PM.

He said they were constantly collecting items to donate in Fiji.

Last year, he said, they hosted the Fijian under-19 soccer team tour of Australia. He said they were also involved in a number of projects to help youths in Victoria.

Mr Bainimarama and wife Mary will arrive back in Fiji today.

Tomorrow, Mr Bainimarama flies out to Geneva where he will address the 40th Session of the Human Rights Council.

Fiji is a member of the council.
