Prime Minister Rabuka: I Want The Media To Be Free
Mr Rabuka said the media was tasked to act as messengers of information and should not be rubbished because of personal agendas people share.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka told journalists in the North on Wednesday that he wanted the media to be free.
“For the people to enjoy the freedom, their freedom relating with the media and also using the media in expressing their views,” he said as the world observed the United Nation’s World Press Freedom Day.
“Being receivers and mediums of information, agents including the public, Government ministers, Members of Parliament and civil servants should educate and train themselves to accept criticism.”

“The media is no longer in the shackles of media suppression,” he said.
“Some of us get easily irritated when somebody says something they do not agree with.”
He advised members of the public and consumers of information from media platforms to practice good sense.
“Don’t rubbish the media because you don’t agree on certain things covered or published,” he mentioned.

Mr Rabuka said he learnt to develop a thick skin from his many interactions with the media.
