Principal Urges Parents to Instil Moral Values in Children

Nakasi High School principal Praveen Chand is pleading with parents to nurture their children with moral values because it is an essential part of their growth.
The call came as a response to the school’s future outlook for 2024.
Since coming to the school in 2016, Mr Chand has seen a lot of changes in the school system.

“We have a lot of students who are being pulled out from other schools because they had behavioural issues like students dealing with drugs, teenage pregnancies and all. When they come here, we receive them, and we teach them like any other of our school students,” he said.
“We tell their parents that they are the key to the success of their children, pay more attention to them. As long as they have that love, they can guarantee their children will succeed, irrespective of their financial backgrounds.”
This year the school has a roll of 400 students an increase of about 40 students from last year.

“Last year we had about 90 students enrolled for Year Nine, however, we’ve moved it up and accepted about 101 students.
“We had a number of students on the waiting list; it’s not that we don’t want to enrol them. It’s just that there isn’t enough space. Right now, we are housing 400 students in nine classrooms.”
Mr Chand said, the success of a child depended on several contributing factors that when combined, would help a child in their growth.
“The Government has given support ranging from free education, $200 assistance and bus fare assistance. It’s all been covered, if that moral support in terms of the love, care and nurturing is practised regularly, they won’t worry about anything,” he said.
“Nakasi High had a 95 per cent pass rate in Year 12 and 13 last year. “We are competing with other schools when it comes to rugby, soccer and this year we are planning to have a girls soccer team, so we have a pretty exciting year ahead of us.”
