Private Anthony Pesamino once dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but life's twists and turns led him down a different path.

His journey took a major shift when he learned that the Fiji National University no longer offered the veterinary course he hoped to pursue.

Feeling disheartened, he found himself at a crossroads and decided to apply for a position in the military.

"It was a real change for me," he said.

"At first, I was inexperienced, but that didn't stop me from pursuing the position alongside others who also applied."

Through perseverance and determination, he rose to the challenge and successfully completed 18 months of rigorous military training.

Graduating from the FTG (military training ground in Nasinu), Private Pesamino reflected on how the experience has reshaped his outlook on life.

"The discipline I learned during training has been a game changer for me," he said.

"I've gained valuable skills, from solving critical issues to engaging with local communities."

Private Pesamino said joining the military opened doors to a better life for himself and his family.

He was eager to serve, recognised the pride and purpose that came with contributing to national security.

"Military service offers the opportunity to be part of something larger than yourself, working to protect and defend the nation," he said.
