Property Owner Insists Temple Break-In, Police Refute Claim

Police are investigating an- other case of alleged sacri­lege at Korociriciri Road in Nausori.

It is alleged the incident hap­pened last Friday, May 6, at Koro­ciriciri Naag Temple.

Property owner, Jai Chand, claimed about $600 worth of gro­ceries was stolen.

“I had collected groceries for next month’s annual prayer which has now been stolen,” he said.

“I did not leave much cash in the temple, but there was about $15 cash which has also been stolen.”

Mr Chand said this was the first incident in 26 years and it had af­fected him emotionally.

“I feel like crying; they threw the idols on the floor and took off their clothes,” Mr Chand said.

“This is the third temple that has been broken into within this area over the past two months.

“The temples are being targeted again and the perpetrators must be apprehended.”

Police spokesperson Ana Nai­soro has refuted claims made by Mr Chand.

She said nothing was damaged or stolen and the report was re­ceived by an unknown caller.

However, Mr Chand said he went to check what was stolen after the forensic team had completed their investigation.

He alleged that items were miss­ing.

Mr Chand said he went to the Po­lice Station on Sunday to report what was missing.

Ms Naisoro said police were in­vestigating the incident.
