Children in Fiji live under a constitution that upholds their rights, equality, and dignity, says Mohenesh Singh, Counsellor and Founder of the Healing Hands Foundation.
Mr Singh emphasised that protecting children from violence, exploitation, and abuse is not only a moral duty but also a legal obligation enshrined in the Child Protection Policy and the Social Welfare Act 2010.
Reacting to a recent social media video showing a father inflicting violence on his children while teaching them numbers, Mr Singh said such behaviour was shocking and unacceptable.

Mr Singh lamented the persistence of a culture where violence is used to assert control.
"It is sad to see that some still believe inflicting harm is the way to get things done," he said.
Highlighting the importance of a positive learning environment, Mr Singh explained that children thrive when they feel involved, comfortable, and supported in their education.
He is urging the Government to increase awareness of positive parenting skills, particularly for young parents.
"When applying for a driving licence, people undergo assessments to become better drivers.
"Similarly, young couples should participate in family life training and positive parenting programmes," he suggested.
Mr Singh stressed that parenting requires immense patience and commitment.
"It is easy to bring a child into this world, but it takes effort and love to provide the care they need. So please, stop hurting them," he said.
He recommended child-friendly teaching methods, such as using number songs, sand writing, and games, to foster better learning experiences.
The Healing Hands Foundation remains committed to supporting government initiatives that promote positive parenting and child counselling.
"We must create critical thinkers, and this can only happen in safe, supportive, and child-friendly environments," Mr Singh said.
