Recently reinstated Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Pryde will formally resume duties next Monday.

Mr Pryde said he had advised the Office of the President of his resumption date.

On April 13, 2023, then-President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere suspended Mr Pryde in accordance with clause 112(4) of the 2013 Constitution.

The reason for Mr Pryde’s suspension was his alleged lengthy conversation with former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on February 28, 2023, during a social event held at the Japanese Ambassador’s official residence.

The suspension was to be investigated by a three-member tribunal.

The tribunal found Mr Pryde not guilty of the allegations of misbehaviour and recommended to the President that he be reinstated.

The Government confirmed Mr Pryde’s reinstatement on its Facebook page last Tuesday.

“I have advised the official secretary to His Excellency the President that I will be formally resuming my duties as Director of Public Prosecutions on Monday, 20th January,” Mr Pryde said.

The cost to Fijian taxpayers of the tribunal that heard the “misbehaviour” claims was $88, 597. 45.

In April 2023, Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga filed a case against Pryde.
