The public and Shamima Ali have the right to comment on how Police carry out their work, but a thank you would be nice.

That’s the comment from Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua who responded to the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) coordinator regarding the laxity of Police officers in domestic violence issues.

Mr Tikoduadua said the force was operating under challenging circumstances while trying to keep everyone safe.

He added that the Police always aspired to do their work, even though they were limited and restricted by many things.

“I haven’t minced my words on how I want the Police to be professional and restore the blue process.”

Ms Ali, in an interview said there were instances where they had to advise and remind officers about following the law on dealing with domestic violence and other sensitive issues.

“You might not need any more Police officers, but you need good Police officers, who are professionals, reclaiming the blue, reminisce on what made the force what it is now,” Ms Ali said.

“A lot of the things that’s shown are all for show, big talk and all but no work.

“We need a Police Commissioner who is a professional, and I don’t think anyone who has left the Police force should be brought in. Some of them are talking again now, some who have allegations against them, criminal allegations,” she said.
