Ministry Grateful to Smith for Saving Crabs

The Ministry of Fisheries is grateful for the actions taken by Jonathan Smith in saving crabs being sold by vendors.
Mr Smith recently bought two bundles of undersized crabs on Saturday from the Suva market. He then released those crabs he bought in the sheltered waters of the Suva yacht club.
This is why the ministry is encouraging the public to work with them and help in sustaining, protecting and growing our marine resources.

Mr Smith managed to bargain the price down to $20 for the big bundle and $15 for the small bundle. He said there were 30 undersized crabs (8cm wide) in both bundles of which 20 were females and 10 males.
“When I told the lady and the guy that I was going to release it they gave that what is wrong with you look,” Mr Smith said.
