Punja Fronts Court for Drug Charge, Released on Bail

The court heard that on February 21, Denarau-based Punja was found with unlawfully in possession of 29.5 grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana).

One of Fiji’s prominent businessman, Ajai Kumar Punja appeared at the Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged with unlawful possession of illicit drug.

He was released on bail after appearing infront of Magistrate Semi Babitu.

Punja is charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drug.

Lautoka-based lawyer Iqbal Khan represented Punja while the Police Prosecution was represented by Constable Petero Vunivalu.

The court heard that on February 21, Denarau-based Punja was found with unlawfully in possession of 29.5 grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana).

He understood the charge against him.

Mr Khan said he had received the disclosures and needed some time to view them before his client could take a plea.

Constable Vunivalu did not object to bail, but urged that bail conditions be applicable.

Magistrate Babitu granted bail with a $500 non-cash bail bond and one surety.

The matter was adjourned for March 20 for the plea.
