Asilika Rinieta Qalo is all set to don the national jumper for the Fiji Airways Fiji women’s 7s side.

The 22-year-old who comes from Nadogo, Saqani and shares maternal links to Nakobo also in Cakaudrove is among the uncapped players on the side that are vying a spot at the Dubai 7s next weekend.

Qalo said making it to the national extended squad was challenging.

She only started playing rugby two years ago with the Police rugby team and later Nasinu.

“I thank God for this Fijiana 7s selection,” she said.

“Donning the national colours has always been a dream but it has not been an easy journey.”

Meeting the daily training requirement in a high performance environ-ment and waking up early to train was tough but she had her support system that motivates her to push herself every day.

“A lot of people have motivated and advised me to humble myself,” Qalo said.

“I did not expect to be called in the squad but I’m ready for national duties.”

Qalo went to Nabua Secondary School and also plays club netball.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s side will leave this weekend for Dubai where they are in Pool A with Australia, Ireland and China.
