Australian airline Qantas has announced flights from Australia to Nadi from mid-December.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said last night during a press conference that this was an indication the confidence the airline had placed into Fiji.

“Vaccination rollout is critically important. People need to recognize this, the politicians need to recognize and more so the ordinary Fijians need to recognize this. That by getting both doses you are opening yourselves to economic opportunities,” the A-G said.

“The fact that Qantas has listed Fiji as one of the safe destinations, is an indication that they have faith in our vaccination rollout. This indicated that they believe we will be able to achieve our targets, and it indicates that they believe that Fiji is a safe place they can take Australians to.”

He said this also meant the national carrier, Fiji Airways, would be able to transport people to and from Australia.
