The Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) has a clearly defined responsibility, says Minister for Defence and Veterans Affairs Pio Tikoduadua.
His comments follow confirmation by Police that they are treating the death of Jone Vakarisi as an alleged murder while he was in military custody.
Public concern has been raised about the role of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), particularly provisions under Section 131(2) of the Constitution, which state that the RFMF is responsible for the security, defence and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians at all times.

“People who have views on how this should be shaped should take them to the CRC. The committee will then produce a report, which the Government will consider holistically when it is ready,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
On Monday night, the RFMF said in a statement that it accepted the initial assessment that the cause of death was alleged murder and that it would take accountability.
“The matter is now being fully investigated by Police,” he said.
“The RFMF has given unhindered access and is fully cooperating with Police. Under the rule of law, the proper processes will be followed. The RFMF is an institution that looks after our people,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“In this case, something has been acknowledged as unwarranted and must be investigated so the law can take its course.
“The RFMF is here for the people and to protect them. Soldiers are subject to the same laws as everyone else, and those are the laws the RFMF will uphold.”
