National Fire Authority (NFA) officers helped save the life of a 61-year-old woman from Lakalaka Settlement, 12 kilometres from Tavua Town.

mau Sowane reported that officers responded to a call for assistance from a resident at midday, who reported that a woman collapsed at her home.

“Upon arrival at the scene at 12:20 pm, the brigade noticed that a 61-year-old woman was unconscious at her home. The brigade assisted family members in trans porting the woman to the Tavua Hospital, he said.

He said the house was vacant at the time of the incident, but it belonged to a family of three who were attending a funeral at the time.

“Brigade immediately established one delivery from tank supply to stop the fire from further spreading towards other parts of the house and managed to extinguish the fire,” he said.

An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of fire.
