Radrodro: Education is Everyone’s Responsibility

It is the responsibility of the vanua, parents, the community, and, most importantly, the church to uplift the academic standards of our children, says Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro.

Mr Radrodro made this statement in the iTaukei language while encouraging parents and the vanua o Vatukaloko in Ra during the prefects’ induction at Vatukaloko Secondary and Draunivi Public schools last Friday.

He said teachers were often blamed for the academic failures of students in school.

“We are all responsible for the quality education of our children. We as parents play a vital role in the education of our children. You play an active role in their learning, stressing that your involvement is crucial in shaping their academic success and overall development.”

He also encouraged parents to spend quality time with their children, monitor their progress, help with homework, and be actively involved in their education.

“Your support at home makes a huge difference in their learning journey,” said Mr Radrodro.

He congratulated the new prefects, encouraging them to embrace their leadership roles with dedication and reminding them that leadership is not only about authority, but also about responsibility, integrity, and serving as positive role models.

Better facilities

Mr Radrodro, also officially opened a new school building at Vatukaloko Secondary School.

The building, which the Ministry of Education fully funded at $49,000, will provide better learning spaces for students and teachers.

Mr Radrodro highlighted the Coalition Government’s continued focus on education, and the need for modern and well-maintained buildings to create a conducive learning environment.

Meanwhile, Penitariki Ratu was inducted head boy, and Alisi Matanisiga inducted as head girl of Vatukaloko Secondary.

Tomasi Tuibua was inducted head boy of Draunivi Public School, and Natekuru Radoka inducted as the head girl.
