Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima says help will be given to Rabi Island in the Northern Division to restore its water supply.
The island’s water piping system feeds from a river. It was damaged during Tropical Cyclone Rae.
“I have been in constant contact with the Rabi Island Council and I am aware of the water disruption situation on the island since Monday,” Mr Rainima said.

“We will assist them so that people, schools and the health centre have access to drinking water.”
He said the recent cyclone damaged vegetation across Vanua Levu.
Rabi Island Council administrator Iakoba Jacob Karutake said the water disruption affected about 5000 islanders from four villages and settlements.
“The people on the island with relevant stakeholders immediately managed to restore water at some places,” Mr Karutake said.
“A lot of work is still needed and we hope to completely resolve it soon.”
Meanwhile, there were other damage caused by TC Rae in Rabi such as roads and foot crossings.
