Ram’s Difficult Travels Lead To Graduation
Yesterday, all the 25-year-old’s sacrifices came to fruition as she graduated with a Bachelor of Primary Education from the Fiji National University (FNU). The graduation ceremony took place at the Civic Centre in Labasa, yesterday.

The many travelling difficulties that Yorishna Devi Ram faced were not enough to keep her from continuing her studies.
Yesterday, all the 25-year-old’s sacrifices came to fruition as she graduated with a Bachelor of Primary Education from the Fiji National University (FNU). The graduation ceremony took place at the Civic Centre in Labasa, yesterday.
“Every Friday I used to travel from Korokadi to attend my class at FNU,” she said.

She said staying in a rural area and travelling to the Labasa campus was challenging to her.
As a primary school teacher at Lekutu Primary School, Ms Ram said it was her school’s headteacher who showed great support for her to further her education.
As the first university graduate from her family, she dedicated her achievement to her parents.
“I always worked hard to fulfill my parents’ dream as they wanted me to excel and have a bright future,” she said.
Ms Ram grew up on a farm, with her father working as a farmer in Bua and her mother as a domestic worker.
She thanked them for believing in her and continuously supporting her.
She said she wanted to continue with further studies abroad and return to serve the people of Fiji.
