Dreketi Central College in Macuata set a record of its own when its 47 students who sat for the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination (FY13CE) 2023 passed.

The rural-based school defied all odds and for the first-time in its history, scored 100 per cent pass rate in the external exam.

School vice-principal Atish Lal said the success would take a while to sink in after making steady progress from 2022 where they achieved a 94 per cent success.

He labelled the achievement as a milestone and believed they continued to progress each year with more than 90 per cent pass rate.

“Despite our remoteness, we are a high performing school.

“So, in collaboration with the staff, management, and community, this was possible,” Mr Lal said.

“They lived up to their expectations of being called the ‘Deep River Warriors,’ who conquered their educational ambition.”

When asked what contributed to the success, Mr Lal labelled the collaboration of four parties.

“The four parties were parents, students, teachers and the community itself.”

Mr Lal said evening classes proved vital where teachers volunteered to assist students to prepare for the externals.

“Our teachers went out of their way to assist students in pre-examination.”

In a visit last month, the advice of the Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, bodied well with students to achieve a perfect pass rate.

Ms Kiran, on that occasion, enencouraged the Year 13 students to strive for the best and achieve marks of exemplary nature.

“Parental support was very much appreciated because all were working in a collaborative approach,” Mr Lal reiterated.

In a positive step undertaken, Mr Lal indicated that apart from their normal teaching schedule, the school arranged extra classes to help slow learners.

School principal Emoni Tuvui was given a special accord for guiding the school towards greener grounds of education.

The school has a roll of 267 students.
