Ratu Finau To Be Buried Beside His Mother Ro Lady Lalabalavu

The Vanua o Burebasaga are ready to lay to rest one of their ‘vasu levu’.

Ratu Alifereti Ulukalala Baleisasa Finau Mara will be buried beside his mother, the late Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Lady Lalabalavu Mara.

Ratu Finau died last Wednesday after succumbing to an illness. He was 60 years old.

Ratu Finau is the eldest son of the late Turaga na Tui Nayau Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara and the late Ro Lady Lala Mara.

He will be buried at the chiefly ‘Na sautabu’ in Lomanikoro village, Rewa - seat of the Paramount Chief of the Burebasaga confederacy, the Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi.

The late Ro Lady Lala Mara is the elder sister of the current Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Spokesperson for the Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Dona Takalaiyale said: “The vanua of Burebasaga will bury their vasu at the na sau tabu.”

Ro Dona said the Vuanirewa clan of Lakeba will hand over Ratu Finau’s body to the Valelevu clan of Rewa on Friday.

Close family members shared a Facebook post yesterday saying there would be no traditional reguregu.
