Lautoka Residents and Ratepayers Association president Narayan Reddy said news of the sudden passing of the board of special administrators’ chair, Ratu Tevita Momoedonu, has left members shocked and saddened.

Ratu Tevita passed away on Thursday at the age of 53.

Mr Narayan said Ratu Tevita had made significant contributions during his brief role as the chair of the board of special administrators.

“The whole of Lautoka is in mourning for the untimely death of Ratu Tevita.

He was a humble person. We managed to have one meeting with him when he was on the board, and I have also had regular talks with him regarding the swimming pool.

He had started working on it to see that it was completed,” Mr Narayan said.

“We will wait until the traditional protocol is finished before we present our reguregu (traditional itaukei respect).

“He immensely contributed to Lautoka.

We will respect their privacy at this moment, but I will say we are really saddened to hear of this news.”

Ratu Tevita had joined the People’s Alliance party and contested as a provisional candidate in the 2022 General Election.

He served as the party’s Western Division president until his resignation in April.

He also worked in the civil service for 15 years before joining the Bank of South Pacific as an insurance advisor.

Ba Provincial Council chairman Meli Tora said traditional protocols must be observed before any further comments could be made to the media.
