Ratu Wiliame Reminds RFMF Recruits Of Role To Family, Community And Nation

President and Commander in Chief Ratu Wiliame Katoni­vere reminded new recruits their new role will equally impact them personally as well as their family, community and the nation.

The Republic of the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) passing out parade was held at the Force Training Ground (FTG) in Nasinu on Friday.

Ratu Wiliame encouraged recruits to be mindful of the decisions they make daily because it would impact those around them.

“Under the 2013 Constitution, RFMF is mandated and is responsi­ble for the overall security, defence and wellbeing of all Fijians and our beloved nation. With that said the time of perseverance, loyalty and integrity may be put to the test,” Ratu Wiliame said.

“Remember that your role is em­bodied in the Constitution and upholding it becomes your obliga­tion. You must continue to uphold the institution values of integrity, team work, the will to win, courage, dedication and duty and family.

“These values have steered our na­tion to peace, prosperity and united under a common identity and equal citizenry and a better Fiji for all. You must always be ready to heed the call of our nation. “You now fall into the ranks of our brave men and women who over the years con­tinued to carry on the legacy of our brave forefathers who have fallen for the service of peace.”

Ratu Wiliame thanked the fami­lies of the new recruits for their support.

“I make particular mention of the important role of the New Zealand Defence Force. A big vinaka vaka­levu for providing instructors to assist in the training team. To the families I would like to thank you for your continuous spiritual and moral support that encouraged your sons and daughters over the years. Your hard work and sacri­fices have paid off as you witness your loved ones in the passing out today,” he said.

“To those passing out today, join­ing the military is not something you do or something you pass time with but it is a way of life, a voca­tion and with that said you are now a soldier.

“Today’s passing out parade is the beginning of the rest of your life. Some of you will become officers, few will be posted to the regular and the territorial force members and whichever path you take those military attributes you have ac­quired will be of great value to you in life.”
