Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has described the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) consultations as an important step in shaping Fiji's future, saying the review process is helping lay the foundation for the next generation.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun yesterday, the former President commended the Government for taking the Constitution review to communities and encouraging public participation.

“For me personally, I foresee a good future, should everything fall into place. I foresee a new Fiji,” Ratu Wiliame said.

“With the current happenings, the new laws being introduced, the Constitution review is coming - we are building ourselves for the future.

“As a former President and traditional head for the vanua Macuata it’s really encouraging to see youths, everyone in our society, coming up and giving their views, even though they may differ.”

Ratu Wiliame said differing views on the proposed constitutional changes were part of the democratic process, with people exercising their right to express opinions on areas they believed required reform.

He said that while many may not agree with changes to the Constitution, it was encouraging to see people openly sharing their views.

With the next General Election approaching, Ratu Wiliame said more people were using the media to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of various government policies.
