Weka Ratudale, 23, says she decided to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) to provide firsthand legal advice to her family.

The soft-spoken Naviyago, Lautoka native with maternal links to Namoli Village was one of the 316 University of Fiji graduates who received their certificates at the Saweni, Lautoka campus last Friday.

Ms Ratudale is pursuing her GDLP (Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice Programme)

“Now there’s no need to get legal advice from outside, so I’ll be the first one to be a lawyer in my family and my community as well so I’’ll be helping them in terms of giving them legal advice,” she said.

“I like learning about the laws in Fiji as some of us in Fiji especially those in the village some of them are not aware of the laws.”

The youngest of five siblings plans to work at a law firm to gain some experience after completing her GDLP.

“Some people just say the word law and think that studying it is hard, but when you get to know it and you’re in the process of learning it then it becomes interesting, it is not hard as long as you put in your effort and work hard,” she said.

She acknowledged her family for supporting her in completing her programme and divine intervention to achieve her goal.

“I would like to thank the Lord, he has been my source of wisdom, my parents they’ve been working hard to help me financially in terms of studying LLB and also my brothers and sisters,” she said.

Proud mother Lusiana Ratudale said her daughter’s hard work had finally come to fruition.

“There were a lot of challenges faced, but it was all about persevering. I am grateful that out of all of that, we have seen the results today where she has reaped the reward,” she said
