Ayesha Kirti Reddy made history as the first student at the University of Fiji (UniFiji) to score an A-plus (A+) in all her units, achieving a perfect GPA of 4.5/4.5.
The former Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial College student graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Physics) and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching at the University of Fiji graduation at Saweni Campus, Lautoka, on Friday.
Ms Reddy, 22, said that from day one, she was determined to score high marks and excel in everything she set out to do.

“Not to compete with others, but instead be the best version of myself and keep on beating my records was the motivation that has kept me going,” she said.
“I was extremely happy. I wasn’t surprised, as my goal at the university from the first semester was to strive for all A+ grades and to make the most out of my lectures. I like to stay grounded and humble while continuously working on improving myself.”
She devoted a lot of time to studying and revising her subjects.
“While on this journey, one will miss out on other fun activities, so time management is the key,” she said.
She treated every assignment, assessment, short quiz, test, or even a verbal question from her lecturers as important.
“It’s not only getting good marks in the final examination, but also scoring big in the continuous assessments is necessary during university life.
“The best study habit is to simply study. There are no shortcuts. I do not make study cards because it does not work for me.
“I believe in studying everything from the lectures’ notes. Paying attention and attending lectures is important as attendance holds a major percentage, which one should not lose.”
Ms Reddy is from Barara in Nadi and attended Gurukul Primary School and Pandit Vishnu Deo Memorial College, where she scored the highest marks of 392/400 in the Fiji Year 13 Examination in 2020.
Family support
Her goal was set by her parents, who wanted her to succeed in education.
At three years old, she was handed story books, writing materials and stationery by her parents.
“I never viewed education as a challenge or a hurdle, but I saw it as something that makes me happy and peaceful.
“There were no major financial challenges, but the continuous sacrifice and struggles of my parents fueled my drive. I refrain from associating the two words ‘education’ and ‘struggles’ because I classify education and knowledge as my happy place and associating them with struggles will demean its value.”
