Refurbished Chambers Ready for New Sessions

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commissioned the new look Parliament house at the Government Buildings over the weekend.
The $4.4million upgrade of the Parliament's refurbishment and IT conference system included the:
■ Procurement of a new conferencing system; -Refurbishment of the Parliament Chambers.

■ Procurement of the Uninterrupted Power Supply equipment.
■ Upgrading of the Audio-Visual Distribution System from Analog to Digital; and
■ The Multi-language Translations and Captioning.
Inside the Parliamentary Chamber, Speaker of the House Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu elaborated on the significant changes.
This included a 'masi' backdrop behind his chair to display the artwork performed by Fijian women, bringing back the old Speakers Chair that was used in 1939 by the first Speaker of the Legislative Council, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, the elevated public gallery, the change in the colour of the carpet and the newly installed TV screens.
The refurbishment project was completed in time of the opening of this year's session in Parliament by the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, today.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka expressed his gratitude to the Parliament secretariat and all those who were involved in the completion of the project, which started in November last year.
The Secretary-General of Parliament, Jeanette Emberson, thanked the Government, led by the Prime Minister, for the approval of the funding and recognising the institution as part of the democratic process.
