Discussions on the reinstatement of unvaccinated Methodist Church ministers is on the agenda of this year’s Methodist Church in Fiji and Roruma (MCIF) Annual Conference.

Newly appointed church president Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou said unvaccinated ministers had been invited to the conference where their possible reinstatement would be discussed.

In September 2021, the FijiFirst government announced that only fully vaccinated individuals were allowed into churches when it reopened its doors on October 4, 2021.

The Methodist Church had then made a stand that only vaccinated ministers were allowed to conduct their duties within the church.

In November 2021, Methodist Church president Reverend Ili Vunisuwai, whose term came to an end yesterday, confirmed that 11 Methodist Church ministers resigned while others were dismissed from their duties in the church.

In March this year, Attorney-General (A-G) Siromi Turaga announced the revoking of any law that prohibited unvaccinated individuals from attending church or from taking part in religious activities.
