The Government officially commissioned a $68,000 groundwater supply project in Naua Village, Macuata, last Friday.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo said the project would provide a reliable water source for the village’s nine households, directly benefiting more than 30 residents.

“It is a privilege to stand before you on this special occasion. This project represents progress, strengthened resilience, and our shared commitment to improving the quality of life for this community,” Mr Vosarogo said.

Previously, the village relied on hand‑dug wells and rainwater, which were often affected during prolonged dry spells.

The new groundwater system aims to end these challenges and ensure sustainable water access.

Mr Vosarogo stressed that groundwater is a finite resource and must be managed carefully.

He urged the community to follow recommended pumping rates and continue supplementing their supply with rainwater harvesting.

He also highlighted the importance of the Naduna seismic station, noting its role in monitoring earthquakes across Fiji and strengthening national preparedness.

“The station may often go unnoticed, but its work is crucial for public safety,” he said.

The Minister reminded villagers that responsibility for monitoring and maintaining the water supply now rests with the Naua Village Water Committee, and he called on the community to support the committee to ensure consistent access to clean water.

He praised the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources team for their dedication, noting that many staff spent weeks away from their families to complete the project on schedule.

He also thanked villagers for their hospitality and support during the works.

“Today, we reaffirm the Government’s commitment to supporting every Fijian community. Use this water wisely — every drop counts. The long‑term success of this project depends on your care,” he added.
