There is a need for ways to relook at contemporary measures, and resource delivery on the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) and partner programmes to the large and dynamic youth population in the country.

Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Bala said this while officiating at the three-day Assistant Youth Officers Capacity Building workshop at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel, Lautoka on Monday.

The workshop theme was ‘Rising Beyond COVID19-Contemporary Measures to Success’.

The Minister said this was the reason for the series of on-going professional developments for our youth officers through similar workshops.

He added that the pandemic had changed the way we live, work, study and plan for the future.

“Given the overriding concerns of the past two years, it is only right that we have given due consideration to the implications of the COVID-19 on our programmes moving forward,” he said.

“The programme impacts all aspects of our lives from sports to HR issues to future planning. It will bring together key Government Ministries and Departments to work in a co-ordinated way towards achieving the strategic goals for Fiji’s youth.”

The minister said this programme had seen large numbers of Fijian youths going back to the land and improving income and food security for themselves, their families and communities. He gratefully acknowledged UNFPA and UNICEF for funding this programme.
